Cashflow Risks in the Glazing Industry: Why Installers Must Act Now

Cashflow risks in the glazing industry are rising sharply in 2025, with many installers unknowingly exposed to serious financial pressures.

That’s the warning from Insight Data CEO Andrew Scott, speaking at this year’s Glazing Summit. He shared exclusive data and analysis from Insight Data’s latest Installer Market Report, highlighting red flags across the sector.

“Installers and fabricators are still operating on old order books, using outdated prices. Margins have been eroded, and in some cases, jobs are being completed at a loss,” Scott explained.

Hidden Risk from Delayed Installations

Installers are now fitting work that was sold four to six months ago, before the most recent cost increases. With inflation still affecting materials, labour and logistics, many firms are seeing their profit margins vanish, creating an invisible cashflow risk.

“It’s a dangerous situation. You think you’re busy, but the money isn’t stacking up,” Scott added.

Artificial Cashflow Creating False Confidence

Insight Data’s research team monitors over 15,000 active fenestration businesses using Salestracker CRM. Many installers have received large deposits upfront from homeowners, providing temporary liquidity.

However, that income was often used to cover previous costs, masking the reality. As those old orders are fulfilled, and new leads slow, the real cashflow position is becoming clear.

Installers at Risk of Overtrading

Another major concern is overtrading, where firms take on more work than they can manage or fund. With reduced margins, late payments, and upfront supplier costs, some companies are heading for a cash shortfall by autumn.

“We’re seeing signs of real strain. Installers don’t have access to factoring or invoice finance like larger firms, so cashflow planning is critical,” Scott said.
