Transport for London offers new land for housing

Transport for London (TfL) is welcoming offers from private developers as it announces plans to convert a former London Underground tunnelling site into a vibrant, new housing development.

At 12 acres, the Limmo Peninsula is TfL’s largest land site and will bring a proposed 1,500 additional homes to the capital – with 40% earmarked for affordable housing. The site provided the main access point during construction of the new Elizabeth Line in the borough of Newham, just across the Thames from London’s O2 Arena.

With work almost completed and the site no long needed, TfL are in a position to re-purpose the land to create what London Mayor, Sadiq Khan envisions to be a ‘booming new East London neighbourhood’.

“The prospect of new, affordable housing will certainly be welcomed by Londoners – especially those struggling under the capital’s rising rents and spiralling living costs,”

“It’s also a positive for the fenestration industry too, with a high-profile development providing fresh demand for building products and reputable businesses who can service such a contract.”

“It’s important that businesses across the industry focus on getting their products and their services in front of housebuilders, contractors and particularly developers ready for when work commences. It means they can catch their attention and ensure they are the first port of call for projects like this and countless others across the country. It’s important for product manufacturers too, getting in contact with architects even before the specification process will only benefit their chances of being involved in such lucrative projects.”
