Sealed unit and hardware suppliers are missing a trick with timber

Timber fabricatorsMany suppliers of window and door components, glass and hardware assume that uPVC and aluminium markets represent the vast majority of their client share. As a consequence, they often neglect the opportunities that the potentially lucrative timber sector can offer.

Lucrative timber markets going unnoticed

Insight Data recently released our 2014 Fabricator and Installer Market Report, the findings of which highlighted the huge potential of the timber market in our sector. Our report shows that whilst the number of companies who manufacture windows and doors has stabilised, there are now more companies manufacturing windows and doors using timber, rather than uPVC or aluminium.

Insight’s Operations Manager, Jade Greenhow, comments: “There are currently 2,334 timber fabricators, more than PVC-U, which currently stands at 1,534, and aluminium which stands at 809, combined. It is true that many are small joinery shops, but equally there are some very large timber manufacturers who are sourcing large volumes of sealed units and components.”

A market full of opportunities

By turning their attention to the potentially lucrative timber market, suppliers can easily target and win worthwhile business from new customers who would otherwise go completely unnoticed.

Jade comments: “The large number of timber fabricators we have added to our databases brings to light the importance of timber as a material, and is a market that should not be ignored by glass, hardware and component suppliers whose traditional market may be aluminium or PVC-U.”
